Mattel’s lawsuit against MCA Records over the song “Barbie Girl” has come full circle as the song is making a return in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film “Barbie.” Aqua’s 1997 hit was sued by Mattel for using the trademarked word “Barbie” without approval, but the lawsuit was ultimately dismissed. Now, a modified version of the song titled “Barbie World” featuring Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, and Aqua is being revived for the film, already garnering millions of listens on Spotify.
