Best Buy has announced it will discontinue selling DVDs and Blu-rays by early 2024, citing changes in how people watch movies and TV shows. However, video games will not be impacted by this decision. The move follows Netflix’s termination of its DVD-by-mail service last month. While Best Buy plans to phase out physical media sales, it will continue to sell physical movies in both its stores and online through the holiday season. The shift away from physical media is meant to allow Best Buy to dedicate more space to new and innovative tech offerings. Despite a decrease in the company’s second-quarter sales, the entertainment category saw an increase of 9.1%.
