As physical assaults on Tesco staff have increased by a third since last year, the UK’s biggest grocery chain is giving its frontline workers the option to wear body cameras in an effort to combat crime and assault on staff. Tesco CEO Ken Murphy highlighted the need for action against abusive and violent behavior towards retail workers, advocating for better cooperation between police and businesses and changes in the law to make such offenses a specific crime. Other British grocery chains, including Sainsbury’s, the Co-op, and Waitrose, have also offered body cameras and implemented additional measures to deter theft and violence against staff.
